Selecting a lender. When selecting a lender you might want to check over the top 15 lenders in Kentucky and go over the loan terms. Most lenders are offering essentially the same benefits with a few minor changes. The Stafford Loans currently have a 6.8 percent interest rate, the subsidized loan has interest which the government is paying while students are enrolled for at least half time and the unsubsidized Stafford has interest accruing once the loan has been disbursed. Please check this lender link provided by Kentucky Higher Education Authority for a lender comparison chart. http://www.kheaa.com/pdf/loancost/ky_stafford.pdf . FSMFN does not have a preferred lender list, but we have listed lenders to select when you complete the Master Promissory note at www.kheaa.com . These are lenders our students have selected over the years and the lenders have provided good customer service to our students. |

Know your program cost and financial aid available. Before you start your program please check the cost of the program and the amount of financial aid that can be offered. The catalog has the cost of each program and the payments due by terms. Currently students are eligible for up to $20,500.00 in Stafford loans per year and can possibly borrow additional grad plus loans if credit scores are good. When borrowing keep in mind the total amount of loan repayment you must make when you graduate. All loans borrowed have to be repaid within 10 years of when students graduate or cease to be a student at FSMFN. Please see the attached loan borrowing chart for amount of monthly repayment that will have to be made once you begin repayment. http://www.kheaa.com/website/kheaa/calc_pymt?main=3 Remember to borrow wisely, but also realize this program should be an investment in your future. |

How to apply for scholarships. Scholarships will be posted on the announcement and financial aid and scholarship forums as they become available. Details on applying will be given at that time. Most scholarships are not need based and we encourage all students to apply for scholarships as they are announced if needed. Any scholarships received should reduce the total loan debt. |
