What Community-Based Distance Education Means to Us Main

Community is more than just "where you live".

Distance Education.... At the Frontier School learning at a distance is called Community-Based Education. Why?

  • Your community means going out into your home community for learning experiences so that you can make a difference in your community when you graduate.
  • Your community includes FSMFN students, faculty and staff.
  • Community means interacting with students, faculty and staff in Hyden, in forums, on the phone and in e-mails.
  • Community means interacting with classmates, other students and faculty regularly.  Loneliness is one of the biggest obstacles to success and being a member of a community guards against this problem.
  • "Distance education" could be a correspondence course, but that''s not what Frontier offers.
  • "Distance education" could mean never setting foot in the classroom. Frontier doesn''t think that''s wise for future health care professionals.
  • "Distance education" could mean never meeting your classmates. Frontier believes that loneliness is not a good motivator and presents one of the biggest obstacles to success.
